The University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio formalized their merger on Monday, creating state’s the third-largest public research university, according to school officials. The merged university, rebranded as UT San Antonio, now has 40,000 students, 17,000 staff and an research expenditure of $486 million. UT San Antonio President Taylor Eighmy, who’s overseen the institution since 2017, said the school will serve as an example for the whole University of Texas system along with the state and the nation.
