President Donald Trump’s new 17% tariff on fresh tomatoes imported from Mexico, implemented in July, is expected to increase food costs for restaurants in San Antonio and beyond, according to industry insiders.  Trump’s move follows the U.S. Department of Commerce’s withdrawal from a 2019 tomato suspension agreement that had previously avoided such duties. The U.S. and Mexico have reinstated five similar suspension agreements over the course of 27 years.
